Community First Bank would like to remind our customers to be careful when going online, even when you’re looking for that perfect mate! Lots of people use online dating sites to find love, but unfortunately, cupid can sometimes be a con artist in disguise.
Aditi Jhaveri, Consumer Education Specialist with the FTC, recommends to be sure to know the difference between a real romance and a scammer cruising for a target. If an online love interest asks for money - for any reason - you may be dealing with a scam.
If this happens to you, check with local law enforcement or your trusted bank friends here at Community First Bank for opinions on anything like this. The old adage "if it sounds too good to be true", is one to always remember.
For more information, we invite you to check out some additional articles in the FTC’s Scam Report section of their website.
